"Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress”

At LSBU Libraries, we are committed to making our spaces, resources and services accessible for everyone. Our goal is to create an inclusive community where every individual can learn, explore and thrive. We’re here to offer support wherever it’s needed, because no one should be left behind.

Accessible Library Services for Everyone

Libraries are places of opportunity, connection and personal growth. We believe that a truly inclusive library ensures everyone has access to the knowledge and tools they need, regardless of challenges they might face. Here are just a few of the services and resources we offer to help you get the most out of your library experience:

Library Tours: Know Your Space, Own Your Experience
Need help finding your way around? We can guide you through the library, introduce you to our facilities and help you feel confident navigating our spaces.

Coloured Overlays: For easier reading
If reading from screens or printed pages is uncomfortable, why not pick up a coloured overlay from one of our campus library helpdesks to make reading easier on your eyes.

Books by Post: Library Access at Home
Can’t make it to the library? Books and other borrowable items can find their way directly to your home by requesting a postal loan.

Books Put Aside: Books Reserved Just for You
Sometimes it’s helpful to check out a book before borrowing it, but locating books on shelves can be tricky. No worries, request a put aside and we can find the items you need and keep them on the hold shelf at the campus library of your choice, ready for you to collect.

Ebooks: With Accessibility Features
Our Ebook platforms include helpful accessibility features such as adjustable text, audio options, and more.
Find more information in our Ebook Accessibility guide.

Books in Alternative Formats: Reading for All
Unlock reading in the format that works for you. Through RNIB Bookshare, students with the accessible reading support adjustment in place can access books in different formats such as pdf, audio, braille, large print and other formats that support the way you read best.
Contact the Disability and Dyslexia Support Team via MyAccount or email disability@lsbu.ac.uk to discuss your support arrangements.

Assistive Technology Rooms: Prefer a quiet, private workspace?
Why not try out our single-use rooms, bookable for DDS-registered students with the support adjustment access to assistive technology rooms. These rooms offer specialist equipment such as adjustable height desks and ergonomic seating. They also have software to support your study needs.

Accessibility Software Appointments: Focus on What Matters:
Whether you need help with reading, writing, or organising information, we’re here to make sure you have the tools you need to work more effectively and confidently. Fill in the form to request an Assistive Software appointment.

We offer personalised training on a variety of accessibility software, including Microsoft Office Accessibility tools, ClaroRead, MindView, and Dragon Speech Recognition.

Creating an inclusive library isn’t just about providing services, it’s about opening doors, removing barriers, and supporting every person’s right to learn and participate fully. Find our full list of services and resources on our library Accessibility webpages:
