What to do with Feedback
It is important to see feedback as guidance. It is intended to indicate what you need to develop. It is for you to decide what you do with it.
Initial advice:
Don’t just look at the grade, read the comments. The purpose of feedback is to give useful advice which will help you to reach your full potential. So, if you are not sure what it means, ask the tutor.
Taking control and making a strategy:
Here is a suggestion for a strategy for dealing with feedback:
- Compare the feedback you have got in the past or for different assignments. Are there any similarities?
- Decide which points are more important, and prioritise them.
- Look at the different opportunities for development provided by your course.
- Find our what resources and support are available from Skills for Learning, Digital Skills, or the Librarians.
- Make a plan. Give yourself targets, steps and deadlines. Use the SMART technique for planning:
- Specific - Be very clear about exactly what you want to do.
- Measurable - Be very clear about what will count as success.
- Achievable - Be sure that it is possible.
- Relevant - Be sure that it going to address the problem.
- Timed - Give yourself a deadline.
