Literature Reviews

A common type of assignment is the literature review. Basically, it is a summary and analysis of one or more pieces of research in a particular topic area.

An assignment to write a literature review usually has three main ingredients.

  1. The first is summarising the main findings and arguments of the source (or sources).
  2. The second is analysis, which means you would identify trends, gaps, and key themes and maybe compare and contrast different sources.
  3. Thirdly, you could synthesise, which means combining ideas.
