Welcome to Your New Wellbeing Corner at LSBU Library

Do you ever feel like you just need a quiet moment away from all the deadlines, noise of campus life and group chats?  Don’t worry, we’ve got you!

This May, we officially launched a wellbeing corner on the top floor of the LSBU Hub Library (Level 3, right by the silent room between Zone E and Zone G). It’s designed to help you relax and maintain good mental health. Libraries shouldn’t just be about books and studying; having a space to reset is so important for improving productivity.

We’ve acted on your Feedback

Last April, we ran a survey across LSBU campuses to find out what would help students feel like they truly belong in the library.

At the Southwark campus alone, 71 of you responded. You told us what you wanted in the breakout areas, which activities and events appealed to you, and your preferred type of furniture that would make your experience better.

The top 3 suggestions were:

  • 54% of you wanted more tables and chairs.

  • 50% of you wanted soft furnishings.

  • 42% of you wanted more plants.

And guess what? We listened!

Introducing the Wellbeing Corner

A room with bean bags and tablesAI-generated content may be incorrect.

The new space includes:

  • Comfy beanbags

  • Chairs and small tables

  • Plant and books

  • Cushions and a rug

  • Plant pictures and a cosy relaxing vibe

It’s a perfect space for reading, meditating, contemplating, or simply taking a breather.

Just to be clear (and said with love), this isn’t the place for socialising, chatting, sleeping, or eating. Use the breakout spaces on levels 2 & 3 for socialising and eating and please go home to sleep when you are getting tired. Think of the Wellbeing Corner as your secret garden when you need some quiet headspace.

Speaking of Breakout Spaces!

You also asked for more comfortable eating and social spaces, so we:

  • Added new tables and chairs so you can eat with friends more easily.

  • Put up pictures to give it a more welcoming feel.

We hope that these changes will make you feel that the library is not only a place where you can study but also supports your well-being.  We want this space to be a place that meets your needs as a student.

So next time you’re on Level 3, come check out the Wellbeing Corner. Know that this space is here for you.

We’d love to hear what you think! Drop your feedback on the wall, in the survey forms, on social media, or just tell us in person. Your voice helps to shape your library.
