There are several additional ways to add references to RefWorks. You can drag and drop pdf files directly into your RefWorks account, search LSBU's databases within RefWorks, or even add them manually.
If you have a document stored somewhere, you can upload it by clicking on ‘Upload document’ at the top of the options list under the plus symbol. Alternatively, you can just click on the document and drag it into the middle of the RefWorks screen. Whilst you are doing this, an icon will come up that prompts you to drop it in the middle of the screen.
If none of the above options work with the reference you want to import, you can click on the plus symbol at the top and then choose the option ‘Create a new reference’. This allows you to put the details of your resource in manually.
A very useful way of importing references, especially from websites, is to use the ‘Save to RefWorks’ functionality. You will have to install it first on your device. In order to do so, go to the Tools section on the RefWorks platform, which then allows you to select the option to ‘Install Save to RefWorks’.
Click on the 'Install Save To RefWorks' link and go through the installation process by following the instructions on the screen. Once the installation has been successfully completed, you will find the ‘Save to RefWorks’ add-on in your browser’s Favourites bar. If you now want to use this newly installed functionality, go to the resource, e.g. a website, which you want to import and click on the ‘Save to RefWorks’ add-on. A screen will now open on the right hand side of your page with the resource’s details on display. If they look correct to you, you can click on the ‘Save to RefWorks’ button at the bottom of the page. The details will now be imported into RefWorks. If you go back to your RefWorks page and refresh it, you should find the reference in the ‘Last imported’ section.
