Reach Higher Programme: Mental Health and Wellbeing

What is Mental Health?

We all have mental health, in the same way we have physical health. Sometimes we can be really healthy and well and other times we may not be. It is important to look after both our physical and our mental health

What is Wellbeing?

Wellbeing is defined by the Cambridge Dictionary as being "The state of feeling healthy and happy". If we do not take steps to look after our wellbeing, we may find ourselves experiencing poor mental health.

How can I look after my Mental Health and Wellbeing?

The basic foundations of good mental health and wellbeing is good sleep, a balanced diet, social connection and exercise.

Building on this, following their research, The New Economics Foundation identified these 5 steps that promote positive mental health and wellbeing and give you the feel good factor -

Connect - Build connections with your friends, family, colleagues and community

Be Active - Physical activity releases happy hormones, so find something you enjoy and get active

Keep Learning - Learning and trying out new things boosts your confidence as well as being fun!

Give - It can feel very rewarding to give to others whether it be your time, support or just a smile

Take Notice - Live in the present, savour moments and notice the things that bring you joy
