Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a two-step verification method for your LSBU IT account, using your mobile phone or tablet for Microsoft to verify your identity. Once this is set up, it is easy to use and is more secure than just your email address and password.
You must set up MFA when you first activate your IT account and keep it up to date so you so not lose access to your account.
To set up MFA, you will need a computer and an iOS or Android device. If you experience any issues get in touch.

When you are setting up your LSBU IT account for the first time or if you are a current student who needs to update their authentication methods, you will see the box below. Click Next.
You will need to set up these two authentication methods:
If you are prompted to update your security info but already have the Microsoft Authenticator app, you will be required to re-add your LSBU account to it.
You need to follow the Microsoft instructions on a PC.
On PC - When prompted to download app, click next.
On mobile phone app - Add a 'work or school' account and 'scan QR code'
On PC - click next again to get to QR code then scan it with your phone app.
You will then need to approve the notification to complete this process.
You may also be required to re-enter you mobile phone details on the PC and verify it with a code by text message.
You will need a laptop/desktop computer as well as your mobile device when setting up the Microsoft Authenticator app.
1. Download the Microsoft Authenticator App on your device.
On your Apple iOS device, go to the App Store to download and install the Authenticator app
On your Android device, go to the Google Play Store to download and install the Authenticator app
2. Once you have downloaded the app, click Next on your computer to proceed. Make sure you have enabled notifications then click Next.
3. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your device.
If you see the option to scan a QR code, select Scan a QR code. If not, select Add account.
Choose Work or school account and then select scan a QR code.
4. Click Next on your computer and scan the code shown on the screen with your device. Once you are informed that this has been successful, click Next.
5. Enter the number shown on the screen when prompted by your device.
6. When the notification is approved, click Next. You should be informed that your Microsoft Authenticator App registration has been successful.
1. Select your country code from the drop down and enter your mobile number.
2. You will get a text message with a 6-digit code. Enter this code and click Next.
3. You should be informed that your phone number registration has been successful.
Once you have successfully set up you authentication methods, you should see the screen below.
Click Done to finish setting up your account.
