Best Practice tips


If the building was constructed over a number of years, state the start and end dates.

Format of the reference

When the architect is known

You will need:

  • Name of the architect
  • Year/s of construction
  • Name of building
  • Location

 

Format:

Surname, Initials of architect. (Year(s) of construction) Name of building. Location.

Example:

Vanbrugh, J. (1699-1811) Castle Howard. York

In-text citation: (Vanbrugh, 1699-1811)

 

When the architect is not known

You will need:

  • Name of the building
  • Year/s of construction
  • Location

 

Format:

Name of the building (Year(s) of construction) Location.

Example:

The Jew’s House (12th Century) 15 The Strait, Lincoln.

In-text citation: (The Jew's House, 12th Century)
